Staying inside the forest at Jim Corbett National Park is a rare and immersive experience for wildlife lovers. The Government Forest Rest Houses (FRHs), managed by the forest department, are located in different safari zones and offer visitors a chance to stay close to nature in a protected environment.
These rest houses are simple, eco-friendly accommodations designed to provide an authentic jungle stay rather than luxury comfort. Each location has its own landscape, wildlife presence, and unique charm.
Bijrani Zone is one of the most popular tourism zones in Corbett. The forest rest house here is surrounded by mixed forest and open grasslands, making it ideal for wildlife viewing.
Historically, this region was once used as a hunting block during the British era. Today, it is known for its rich biodiversity and relatively dry terrain compared to other zones.
Located approximately 12 km from Bijrani, Malani offers a peaceful and less crowded forest experience. This rest house sits near the core boundary and is surrounded by scenic landscapes.
The journey to Malani itself is rewarding, with chances to observe wildlife and bird species along the route. It is a great option for travelers seeking solitude and nature exploration.
The iconic Dhikala FRH is one of the most प्रसिद्ध stays in Corbett. Located in the Patli Dun valley with the Ramganga River flowing nearby, it offers breathtaking panoramic views.
This historic structure has been welcoming visitors for over a century and serves as a central point for exploring deeper forest areas.
Situated on the way from Dhangarhi Gate to Dhikala, Sultan is the first FRH in this route. It is named after the seasonal stream “Sultan Sot” and is surrounded by dense Sal forest.
Gairal is located near the banks of the Ramganga River and offers scenic river views. This peaceful location is ideal for nature observation, birdwatching, and enjoying the calm environment of the forest.
Positioned downstream of Gairal, Sarapduli lies along the Ramganga River. It is known for frequent wildlife movement, including elephants and other large mammals. The area is also suitable for spotting crocodiles and bird species.
Located in a well-known tiger habitat area, Khinnanauli provides a strong chance to explore core forest regions. It has been developed to improve access for wildlife tourism while maintaining ecological balance.
Jhirna Zone lies in the southern part of the park and remains open throughout the year. The terrain here is comparatively dry with scrub vegetation.
Earlier a village area, Jhirna was relocated under Project Tiger and is now an important wildlife habitat. Visitors may encounter species such as:
• Tigers
• Elephants
• Deer
• Sloth Bear
• Wild Boar
It is also a good destination for birdwatching, with both resident and migratory species present.
Phato Forest Rest House is located inside the Phato eco-tourism zone of the Corbett landscape, offering a unique opportunity to stay amidst dense forest surroundings. The property is surrounded by sal and mixed forest, providing a calm and nature-rich environment ideal for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers.
Phato Tree House offers a rare opportunity to stay above ground level within the forest. These tree houses are designed for nature immersion and are available through limited permits issued by the forest department.
